Lotus Buds serves children aged 5 – 15 years old. The program is open to anyone at all, and people either self-identify as having the need for the program or are recommended by someone in the community.

Education Initiatives
At Lotus Buds, we’re dedicated to empowering children with the foundational skills they need for a lifetime of learning. Our engaging and interactive teaching methods not only cover essential subjects like reading, writing, and math but also ignite a love for learning through art, music, history, and IT. By providing access to critical educational resources and support, we’re committed to bridging the gap in learning opportunities and helping every child succeed.
Health Initiatives
Lotus Buds provides essential healthcare services focusing on nutrition, hygiene, vision, and dental care. We work with specialized healthcare professionals to give children the basic medical attention they need. Our work promotes preventive healthcare measures to enhance overall wellbeing and reduce health disparities, and we empower children with the knowledge and healthy habits necessary for a healthy lifestyle.
Annual Summer Camp for children
Each year in October, Lotus Buds hosts an annual summer camp that provides a holistic experience blending education, recreation, and personal development with plenty of fun! This camp creates a safe and inclusive environment where children can explore their interests, build lasting friendships, and create cherished memories.
We give the children a rare opportunity to play outside in the fresh air and offer diverse activities and workshops designed to nurture creativity, confidence, and resilience.
Community Activities
Lotus Buds organizes field trips and special activities to give our children the opportunity to discover their wider community and society. For example, to complement a volunteer-led, weeks-long classroom instruction about Ancient Egypt, we arranged field trips to the Pharaonic Village, a cruise on the Nile, and a visit to the Pyramids of Giza.
To provide the children with time to discover themselves and their relationships through play, we organized special visits to places like swimming pools, indoor playgrounds, and parks. For many of our children, these are first-ever experiences.
Child Protection
Nothing is more important than ensuring that Lotus Buds as an organization, and our Center in Boulak al-Dakrour, are safe spaces for children. As such, we are now undergoing a rigorous child protection development project under the leadership of a child protection specialist with many years of experience in various international organizations. Together, we are developing a Child Protection Policy and Action Plan that includes staff training, empowering children through knowledge about their rights, and developing a complaint mechanism that can be utilized both internally and externally.
